I will be teaching a course on the life of Jesus at Keele University on Wednesday 10th/December/2014 from 17.00-21.00. The course will be based on the Qur’anic account of Jesus’ life which I will contrast with the story in the New Testament and other Christian and historical sources. I will also make comparative references to relevant concepts and statements from the Old Testament and other Jewish writings. I will explain where the various accounts agree and differ.
Over the four hours I will be covering the following subjects in their chronological order:
- Mary’s story and the annunciation
- Jesus’ birth
- The concept of Messiah
- The miracles of Jesus
- Jesus’ message
- Jesus’ book, the Injil
- The crucifixion
- The concept of Jesus’ second coming
Booking is open on the website of the Madina Institute . The booking includes a free copy of my book Jesus the Muslim Prophet.
Salam alaikum.
I have been following your blog for a while now and would like to thank you for the the quality and relevance of your research and writing.
I am very interested in this course, but i live in Scotland which quite far away.
Is there a way for me to take the course over skype or a live broadcast.
I am mostly interested to know your perspective about the concept of Jesus’ second coming.
Salam Chahrazed, Thank you very much for the kind words and your interest in my writings and the course. I am sure the organizers were not expecting participants from Scotland :-). I do not know if the organizers of the Keele University course would be interested in organizing the course in other cities in the UK, provided there is enough interest in it, but if not then I hope other Muslim or interfaith organizations might be interested, and hopefully there can be… Read more »
Salam Alaikum Thank you very much for replying to my message, all my dua for the course to be beneficial for everyone involved inshallah. I will inshallah get in touch with you and the madina institute to discuss the possibility of having it in Aberdeen around Easter time. I will do a survey in my community to see if there is interest in such a course or an adapted version of it. I have been coordinating a quran tadabbur (pondering on the Quran) ladies’ study circle in my hometown for the last 3 years and I have to say that… Read more »
Salam Chahrazed, it is a good idea to get in touch with the organizers and see if they are interested in having an event in Aberdeen .
I am not aware of the works of the two scholars you mention but I look them up. You are absolutely right about the gap that exists between perceived history and real history. We Muslims often talk about this with relation to the histories of other nations and religious groups, but we have not been giving enough attention to our own.
