Biography

I was born in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1961. My wife, Shetha Al-Dargazelli, and I migrated to the UK in 1992, and I live in Birmingham, England. I obtained a BSc in physics from Baghdad University in 1984 and a PhD in astronomy from Durham University in 1998.

Originally from a Christian family, I embraced Islam in my early twenties. In 1988, I began practising Sufism under the guidance of Shaikh Muhammad al-Muhammad al-Kasnazan (1938–2020), the then Shaikh of al-Tariqa al-‘Aliyya al-Qadiriyya al-Kasnazaniyya.

Islam has not only been my faith and way of life, but also a subject of deep intellectual interest. My research areas in Qur’anic and Islamic studies include:

• Comparative Abrahamic religions
• Historical miracles in the Qur’an
• Sufism
• Islamic history
• Islamic theology
• Tafsir (Qur’anic exegesis)

I have published over twenty books in both English and Arabic on Islamic studies. You can view my English books and my Arabic books.

I have also published over twenty research papers in cosmology, applied historical astronomy, and Islamic studies. You can download them from my Academia.edu page.

I publish regularly on social media in both English and Arabic. If you are interested in my work, you can follow my accounts below:
