Ibn Taymiyyah and the Lie of “Grave Worship”: Blending Lies with Ijtihad

Ijtihad (independent reasoning) leads to a diversity of opinions among Muslim scholars, which is a source of mercy and latitude for the Ummah. Ijtihad, then, is not the reason for the division of Muslims into hostile factions.

This division is due to the falsification of history and the mixing of authentic Hadiths with fabricated ones. This political, tribal process began intensely following Mu‘awiyah Ibn Abi Sufyan’s seizure of power. The lies and deceit of scholars are often presented as legitimate Ijtihad.

In this video, I discuss and expose one of the most dangerous instances of this, which became a great trial for Muslims:

  • Considering the worship at graves a bid‘a (religious innovation).
  • Declaring countless Muslims who pray, supplicate, and recite the Qur’an at the tombs of the righteous out of love and reverence as disbelievers.

I will show that the true founder of this misguided endeavour is Ibn Taymiyyah, who innovated the misleading terms “grave worship” (‘Ibadat al-Qubur) and “gravers” (Quburiyyah) as accusations of polytheism against Muslims. Regrettably, these takfiri innovations of Ibn Taymiyyah spread, especially following the emergence of the movement of Muhammad Ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhab and its adoption of his ideas.

The followers of Ibn Taymiyyah title him “Shaikh al-Islam” (the Shaikh of Islam), but his legacy, which divided the Ummah and legitimised the takfir of monotheist Muslims, truly makes him the “Shaikh al-takfir fi al-Islam” (the Shaikh of takfir in Islam).

Watch the video now to learn crucial historical facts being published for the first time. Discover the history of this takfiri trial, how it was founded on lies and deceit, and its devastating impact on the unity of Muslims.
