“Sunna” and “Hadith”: Qur’anic Usage vs. Definitions in Islamic Sciences

In this video, we first explore the terms “Ḥadīth” and “Sunna” as defined by Muslim scholars and the relationship between them. We then examine the usage of these two terms in the Qur’an, looking at their specific contexts and the meanings they convey.

Beyond comparing these terms across the Qur’an and Islamic sciences, this podcast aims to highlight two essential dimensions:

  • QUR’ANIC PERSPECTIVE: Investigating whether any concept or term in Islamic sciences has a Qur’anic foundation and, if so, studying what the Qur’an says. Indeed, the Qur’an must always be the first stop.
  • HISTORICAL CONTEXT: Learning the history of the formation and development of established Islamic concepts and terminology.
