Some scholars have tried to undermine or even dismiss the stunning prophecy by the Prophet Muhammad that the great companion, ‘Ammar ibn Yasir, would be killed by an “aggressor group” (fi’a baghiya). They have done this despite claiming to be the Ahl al-Hadith (the people of hadith) who give precedence to naql (tradition) over ‘aql (reason). The motive for this is to exonerate Muʿāwiya ibn Abū Sufyān, the leader of the “aggressor group.” To this end, they have employed three strategies: trivialising the hadith, casting doubt on its authenticity, and distorting and erasing its meaning and implications. This video critiques these seriously flawed strategies and the extremely sectarian motive behind them, both historically and religiously.
