Accepting that Jesus was crucified requires explaining why it happened, yet there is no clear or unquestionable explanation in the Gospels. Scholars often refer to two events that supposedly angered the Sadducees, who were in charge of the Temple in Jerusalem.
The first event involves a prophecy Jesus reportedly made regarding the destruction of the Temple. The second is a major disturbance he is said to have created within the Temple by attacking traders. However, neither of these narratives stands up to common-sense scrutiny, let alone historical analysis.
