In this follow-up to “The Ibn Taymiyya Phenomenon: Islamic Scholarship at Its Worst,” I respond to the main defence raised by critics and examine the deeper, centuries-old crisis it exposes within the Muslim umma: the conflation of scholarly reasoning (ijtihad) with divine revelation.
