How Classical Jurists Overruled the Qur’an on Apostasy

The Qur’an is clear that apostasy is not a worldly crime, let alone a capital offence. Yet classical fiqh unanimously treated it as punishable by death.

This ruling is based on two hadiths, both of which are recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari. Because these reports directly contradict fundamental Qur’anic principles, they must be critically re-evaluated and classified as fabrications. It is time for Muslim scholars to face up to how classical jurists introduced into Islamic law rulings that override the Qur’an, rather than continuing to look the other way.
